EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
This staff report asks the City Council to approve Resolution 2024-071 affirming the City's intent to preserve the Corona Depot Building at 150 Depot Drive and recognize it as an asset in the City's Heritage Inventory.

BACKGROUND & HISTORY:
On April 2, 2024, Council Member Speak submitted an agenda item request to have the City Council discuss and consider adopting a resolution that would affirm the City's desire to save the Corona Depot building located at 150 Depot Drive from future demolition. The Corona Depot building was built in 1937 and was historically a train station for the Santa Fe Railroad. The building was placed on the City's Heritage Inventory according to Section 17.63.090 of the Corona Municipal Code (CMC) and is ranked "high with rehabilitation" as a potential listing for a local landmark.
During the June 5, 2024, council meeting, the Council approved the request and directed staff to draft a resolution maintaining the City's intention to preserve the Corona Depot Building, aligning with citizens' expressed support for saving it.
Although the City Council expressed its desire to protect the Corona Depot Building, it should be noted that this desire does not automatically protect the building from demolition by the current or any future property owner.
