EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Federal Department of Homeland Security Program Grant provides funding to assist states and local governments in enhancing and sustaining emergency management capabilities in preparing for all hazards that a community might face. The Fiscal Year 2020 Federal Department of Homeland Security grant was awarded to the City of Corona in the amount of $100,000 for the purchase of radio communications equipment and accessories for the Police Department.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Recommended action
That the City Council:

a. Authorize the submittal for and acceptance of the Federal Department of Homeland Security Program through the State of California, Riverside County's Fiscal Year 2020 State Homeland Security Program Grant award in the amount of $100,000.

b. Approve an appropriation and estimated revenue increase of $100,000 within the Reimbursement Grants Fund 480 for the Police Department to purchase hand-held radios, which will be reimbursed with the above-noted grant funds.

BACKGROUND & HISTORY:
The Federal Department of Homeland Security Program Grant provides funding to assist states and local governments in enhancing and sustaining emergency management capabilities. This funding is through a sub-grant that is administered through the California Office of Emergency Services in cooperation with the Riverside County Operational Area.

ANALYSIS:
The Federal Department of Homeland Security allocates grant funding to local governments to assist in their efforts to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond, and recover from potential terrorist attacks and other hazards.
