EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
This report asks the City Council to provide direction on Vice Mayor Steiner's request to send a letter of opposition to Governor Newsom and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, opposing the transfer of death row inmates from a State maximum-security prison to Chino's California Institution for Men.

BACKGROUND & HISTORY:
Vice Mayor Steiner submitted an agenda item requesting staff to prepare a letter of opposition to Governor Newsom and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation outlining the City's concerns about the State's decision to transfer death row inmates to Chino's California Institution for Men.
ANALYSIS:
The request for a comment letter is supported by the City's Legislative Platform, Section 7 - Public Safety. Staff anticipates it will take up to 25 hours to complete and finalize a letter for dissemination. Should the Council proceed with this request, staff will return this item to the next Council meeting.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There is no financial impact associated with this request.
