City Council consideration to accept and appropriate up to $10,000 of Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant funds for the 2017/18 Makerspace project.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Recommended action                     

That the City Council:

 

1.                     Accept grant funding from the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) for the 2017/18 Makerspace project.

 

2.                     Appropriate funding and increase revenue estimates by up to $10,000 from the Library Other Grants Fund.

ANALYSIS:

The Corona Public Library has been awarded funds as part of the 2018 Developing Library Makerspaces project.  The LSTA 2017/18 Makerspace grant will be dispersed to participating pilot libraries to build, run, and sustain successful makerspaces that can assist their own library system as well as other interested libraries throughout the state.

This item supports the City’s Strategic Plan Goal 4:  “Actively engaging in public and private partnerships to provide services and amenities.”

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

The up to $10,000 in federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds will reimburse the cost of the Makerspace project start and requires no cost share or matching.
