Title

City Council consideration to accept and appropriate $15,000 from the Local Update of Census Addresses Incentive Fund for the 2020 United States Census.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Recommended action                     

That the City Council:

 

1.                     Accept the State Controller’s Office (SCO) award of $15,000 from the Local Update of Census Addresses Incentive Fund for the 2020 United States Census. 

 

2.                     Approve an appropriation of $15,000 to the Management Services Department’s operating budget and increase revenue estimates by the same amount in the General Fund.

ANALYSIS:

The United States (U.S.) Census Bureau is required by the Constitution of the United States of America to conduct a count of the population which provides a historic opportunity to help shape the foundation of our society and play an active role in American democracy.

The Department of Finance has determined that the City of Corona has met the applicable benchmarks to receive the Local Update of Census Addresses Incentive Fund and has requested that the State Controller’s Office (SCO) issue the award.  Please note that the SCO will make the payment via electronic funds transfer (EFT) within 2-4 weeks with the name Census Act to our organization’s account. The allocation of funds for the Local Update of Census Act is pursuant to Provision 4 of item 9100-101-0001 of the Budget Act.

 

This funding will allow the Management Services Department to get involved and support the 2020 Census. The funds will be used to display and/ or distribute 2020 Census educational/ promotional material.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding from the Local Update of the Census Addresses Incentive Fund will be received in the amount of $15,000, in the General Fund. The Management Services’ operating budget will be increased by the same amount to fund the census related activities.
