RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Recommended action                     

That the City Council adopt Resolution No. 2019-006, proclaiming the existence of a Local Emergency pursuant to Government Code Section 8630.

 

Body

ANALYSIS:

Conditions of imminent threat of impending emergency or disaster caused by natural forces exists, posing extreme peril, loss of life, safety of persons and property have arisen within the City of Corona caused by major damage due to the Canyon 1 Fire and the recurring atmospheric river weather systems. Beginning February 13, 2019 an intense winter storm delivered extreme amounts of rainfall over the City of Corona including the Canyon 1 Burn areas. The storm caused flooding, mud and debris flows which in turn caused the evacuation of residents, road closures, damage to property and critical infrastructure and necessitated the rescue of residents to include numerous

swift water rescues, to protect their lives and safety. The aforesaid conditions of extreme peril are beyond the control of the services, personnel, equipment and facilities of the City of Corona, pursuant to Government Code Section 8558 (c).
