City Council consideration of acceptance and appropriation of $5,760 from the California Library Association for the 2019 Lunch at the Library Program.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Recommended action
That the City Council:

1. Accept and appropriate funding in the amount of $5,760 from the California Library Association for the 2019 Lunch at the Library program.

2. Appropriate the above funds to the Library and Recreation Services' operating budget and increase revenue estimates by the same amount in the Library - Other Grants Fund.

ANALYSIS:
Libraries are community spaces that welcome everyone in the community and provide free access to resources that support the lifelong needs of residents. Further, public library summer reading programs encourage and enable children and teens to set reading goals and engage them in activities that extend the reading experience. Summer Lunch at the Library helps combat childhood hunger and obesity when school is out by providing free, healthy meals to children, ages 18 and under, in low-income neighborhoods. By serving meals and offering complementary literacy programs during the summer, our program feeds children during non-school months and engages low-income families with their local public library. Lunch at the Library is a project of the California Library Association and California Summer Meal Coalition and the Corona Public Library is a proud participant library.

Corona Public Library (CPL), in partnership with Corona Norco Unified School District Nutrition Services, served 1900 lunches to local children through its Lunch at the Library program in June and July 2018.
