Recommended action
That the City Council:

1. Accept and appropriate funding from the California Public Library Services Board for the Fiscal Year 2018/19 Maker Exchange program.

Body
ANALYSIS:
The California State Library, with funding from the California Public Library Services Board, has approved a Value of Libraries mini-grant in the amount of $3,000. This grant is issued for the Maker Exchange program to support Personal Advancement (defined as learning and knowledge development) for the community.

The Maker Exchange is the Corona Public Library's Makerspace, a space designed to encourage people with common interests to share ideas, knowledge, and equipment in the creation of projects and art and in the further development of skills. The Maker Exchange was developed from a California State Library grant previously approved by Corona City Council on July 18, 2018.

The purpose of Value of Libraries mini-grant funding is to enhance learning and knowledge development among teens including emotional and mental strength (i.e., accepting failure and building critical thinking skills) which may be used in the college application process or the pursuit of employment opportunities. Additionally, these funds will allow facilitators to purchase educational tools to increase class size for greater accessibility.
