RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Recommended action
That the City Council:
1. Accept and appropriate funding in the amount of $500 from the California State Library for the Fiscal Year 2018/19 Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros Program.
2. Appropriate $500 to the Library and Recreation Services’ operating budget and increase revenue estimates by the same amount in the Library - Other Grants Fund.
Body
ANALYSIS:
Día de los Niños is a multicultural experience for young children and their families celebrated in libraries all over California and throughout the US. It focuses on inclusion and promotes culture, language and books for multicultural/multilingual families. Many libraries lack the resources to engage with local families as part of Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros. Provision of seed funding will assist the Corona Public Library (CPL) in creating our own Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros events and activities. CPL is one of 100 libraries throughout the state to be awarded a $500 grant for multicultural programming materials and resources through this funding opportunity. Resources must be purchased before any planned events to be eligible for reimbursement. CPL has scheduled its event for April 27, 2019.
