City Council consideration of acceptance and appropriation of Fiscal Year 2019-20 Edison International Fire-Safe Community Grant Program award in the amount of $5,040.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Recommended action                     

That the City Council:

 

1.                     Authorize the submittal for and acceptance of the Fiscal Year 2019-20 Edison International Fire-Safe Community Grant Program award in the amount of $5,040.

 

2.                     Approve an appropriation and estimated revenue increase of $5,040 in the General Fund for the Fire Department to contract for the development of a tailored Virtual Community Risk Reduction program.

ANALYSIS:

The California Fire Safe Council and Edison International provide small grants for community fire prevention and preparedness projects. The Fire Department will utilize this grant funding to develop a tailored Virtual Community Risk Reduction program. It will allow us to provide pertinent priority information to our communities, while gathering valuable information we are seeking from them. This is an organized, cost-effective, and a metrically based way for our department to develop and begin implementing a Community Risk Reduction program. It will allow us to more effectively reach, communicate and educate our community members impacted by our wildland fire threat.

STRATEGIC PLAN:

This item supports the City’s Strategic Plan Goal 1: Promote Public Safety: Protect our Residents and Businesses; Objective a: Ensure adequate funding for police and fire services.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

An appropriation of $5,040 from the General Fund is requested for the Fiscal Year 2019-20 Edison International Fire-Safe Community Grant Program. The General Fund estimated revenue will be increased by $5,040 to reflect the approval of the grant funding. This grant has no cost share or matching requirements.

 

 

ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS:

No environmental review is required because the proposed action is not a project under the California Environmental Quality Act.
