EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
This staff report asks the City Council to authorize the purchase of twenty (20) new Motorola APX 8500 mobile radios in the amount of $189,029 from Motorola Solutions for the Police Department. The estimated cost of the radios was previously included and approved as part of the request submitted to Council on February 21, 2024.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Recommended action
That the City Council:
a. Authorize an Exception to Competitive Bidding pursuant to Corona Municipal Code Section 3.08.140(C) that competitive bidding has been satisfied based upon the reasons provided in "Basis for Determination of Competitive Bidding" with Motorola Solutions, for the purchase of twenty (20) new vehicle radios for the Police Department in the amount of $189,029.
b. Authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to issue a purchase order to Motorola Solutions in the amount of $189,029.

BACKGROUND & HISTORY:
The City of Corona's Police Department was recently given authorization to purchase twenty new Ford Explorer Police Interceptors. The new vehicles have arrived and are in the upfitting process, which is overseen by Fleet Services, in conjunction with the Police Department.
As part of this upfitting process, the Police Department needs to equip these vehicles with new Motorola APX 8500 mobile radios. These radios, along with the department's newly acquired Motorola APX NEXT handheld radios, will allow our officers to communicate with dispatch, other officers, and other agencies throughout Southern California.
ANALYSIS:
