Title
City Council consideration of accepting $14,155 and appropriating $12,739 for the Local Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant, within the U.S. Department of Justice Grant Fund.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Recommended action
That the City Council:

1. Accept the U.S. Department of Justice 2018 Local Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant in the amount of $14,155, with ten-percent (10%) of the award, or $1,416, designated for the City of Riverside as the grant's Fiscal Agent, and three-percent (3%) of the remaining award (after the fiscal agent portion), or $383, is designated for the National Incident-Based Reporting System, or NIBRS.

2. Appropriate $12,739 from the U.S. Department of Justice Grant Fund and increase the estimated revenue by the same amount to be received from the U.S. Department of Justice.

3. Authorize the City Manager, City Attorney, and/or the Chief of Police to execute any required grant documents that are in compliance with the City Council's actions hereunder.

ANALYSIS:
On January 8, 2019, the City of Riverside had notified the City of Corona that the 2018 Local Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) local formula grant of $14,155 was approved for funding, from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The grant's mission is to assist state, local, and tribal efforts to prevent or reduce crime and violence. Funds received are to be used for local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, information systems for criminal justice, and criminal justice related research and evaluation activities that will improve or enhance law enforcement programs.
