Recommended action
That the City Council adopt Resolution No. 2018-126 reciting the fact of the General Municipal Election held on November 6, 2018 and declaring the results and such other matters as provided by law.

ANALYSIS:
The passing of Measure N on the November 2016 ballot changed the way City Council Members are elected from an "at-large" system to a "by-district" system. Five Council electoral districts have been established and the residents of each district elect one Council Member from that district.

As provided for in Measure N and Corona Municipal Code Section 2.08.170, commencing with the General Municipal Election on November 6, 2018, the voters in District 1, 4 and 5 elected new Council Members pursuant to the "by-district" system. The remainder of the City Council Members currently in office will continue until the expiration of their terms. On November 2020, the voters in District 2 and 3 will elect their City Council Members by-district.

The Riverside County Registrar of Voters has been charged with canvassing the returns of the November 6, 2018 General Municipal Election. Pursuant to Sections 10262 and 10263 of the California Elections Code, after receiving the canvass from the Registrar of Voters, the City's elections official shall certify the results to the governing body and the body shall adopt a resolution reciting the fact of the election and declaring the official results and such other matters as provided by the law. These actions must be taken no later than the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting following presentation of the canvass, or at a special meeting called for that purpose.
